I have several dozen things that need my attention today. So I'll only post this short message that I read on one of my e-mail messages today. It came from Straight From The Garden .
** Chew Your Food **
When you chew your food long enough, your body will tell you if you should be eating it. Start chewing your food to the point that other people wonder if you ever plan to swallow it. Pay attention to how it feels. Digestion begins in the mouth, and chewing well is the first stage of digestion. Not only will you be preparing the food for the second stage, but you'll be sending signals to your entire digestive system to prepare itself for what is to come.
When your body doesn't want the food you are chewing, ironically, your first impulse is to swallow it. Your body is saying, "I don't need this. Nothing good is happening here. There is nothing to figure out." Your body wants that food out of your mouth. The next time this happens, resist the urge to swallow. Spit.
And if you are not getting adequate nutrition from your food, consider taking a daily supplement of Max N-Fuze. Visit my web site to read about our natural nutritional supplements.

FDA Approves Stevia, Ends the Era of Oppression of this Herbal Sweetener
Dated 12/19/2008, from Natural News:
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued letters of non-objection for the use of a natural, zero-calorie sweetener it once sought to wipe out from the U.S. marketplace. Following political pressure from powerful consumer product corporations (Coca-Cola and Pepsi, primarily), the FDA has once again fallen in step with the interests of Big Business and legalized a food and beverage ingredient that it once aggressively oppressed.
In this case, however, the approval of this ingredient happens to be in the best interests of consumers. Why? Because it will largely replace aspartame, an artificial sweetener chemical linked to numerous neurological disorders, including headaches, eye disorders and other problems.
It will also unleash a wave of stevia-sweetened products for consumers, and that's good news for diabetics or anyone seeking healthier products sweetened with an herbal extract rather than a synthetic chemical.
I [Mike Adams] publicly predicted this FDA decision just two weeks ago an article containing thirty-one predictions for 2009 (http://www.naturalnews.com/024976.html). The FDA's approval of stevia is prediction #8, for those keeping track. (Interestingly, at least two of the top 13 predictions for 2009 have already come true in the last month of 2008!)
The circumstances surrounding this FDA approval of stevia reveal yet again the true loyalties of the agency. When stevia threatened the profits of aspartame, it was routinely suppressed by the agency. FDA thugs seized imports of stevia at the border, destroyed millions of dollars in stevia products, threatened companies with fines for daring to sell stevia, and even ordered one company to destroy its recipe books that mentioned stevia in dessert recipes. But now, when Coca-Cola and Pepsi want stevia approved, the FDA suddenly reverses its oppression and decides to legalize the herb.
Again, this is a rare case where the FDA's decision benefits consumers, but the circumstances behind the decision were in no way motivated by consumer interest. They were motivated by corporate profits.
Betty Martini's victory
What's so profitable about stevia? Well, thanks to the efforts of Betty Martini and others who have been warning about the dangers of aspartame, word has spread across the 'net to the point where informed consumers no longer want to consume aspartame at all. In other words, the aspartame opponents succeeded in destroying the consumer acceptability of aspartame! And that led the big players (Coke, Pepsi, etc.) to look for something that would be more acceptable to consumers.
That search led them to stevia. And once Big Business got behind the herb, it was only a matter of time before the FDA caved in to commercial interests and legalized the herb.
Realize this crucial point: The FDA's decisions these days are based entirely on corporate profits and have absolutely nothing to do with science, safety or consumer interests. Remember, it was just a few days ago that the FDA declared infants, children and even pregnant women could now eat essentially unlimited quantities of mercury in fish, without any negative health consequences whatsoever! This is the same agency that says children can "safely" eat melamine, bisphenol-A, MSG, sodium nitrite and all sorts of other dangerous, toxic substances that harm human health.
So don't be fooled for a minute into thinking that the FDA's approval of stevia has anything to do with serving the People.
Stevia victory!
Nevertheless, this approval of stevia stands as a major consumer victory. And I want to take a minute to applaud three people who deserve big-time credit for spreading the word about aspartame, thereby creating demand for stevia that has finally led to its approval:
• Dr. Betty Martini (http://www.mpwhi.com/main.htm)
• Jeff Rense (http://www.rense.com/)
• Dr. Russell Blaylock (http://www.russellblaylockmd.com/)
There are many others, of course, and even NaturalNews may deserve some credit (I've been promoting stevia for ten years now), but the main credit goes to Dr. Betty Martini who has fought aspartame for well over a decade.
In fact, the approval of stevia is paving the way for the banning of aspartame! And I predict aspartame will eventually be banned or removed from the GRAS list, but that would have never happened unless an alternative were available. Stevia is that alternative.
Is Cargill's stevia really safe?
There is some speculation that the patented stevia being used by Coca-Cola, Pepsi and other big businesses is in some way less natural than the traditional stevia we've been buying at health food stores for years. Some have wondered how their patented stevia (Truvia) could actually be patented unless there were some synthetic molecules in it.
It's a reasonable question, but at the moment, I'm not aware of any evidence of Truvia being adulterated or synthesized in any way at all. In fact, I personally welcome the ingredient and applaud Cargill for pressuring the FDA into getting this GRAS approved. There is no evidence I'm aware of that their stevia is genetically modified or altered in any way. Of course, if such evidence emerges, I'll make it available here on NaturalNews, but at the moment I'm supporting this Truvia ingredient and would even consume it myself. That's always subject to change if new information emerges, of course.
Sherry Weiss Poall, who works for the RF Binder public relations agency that serves Cargill, has been distributing safety research data about Truvia since July, 2008, but since those studies were paid for by Cargill, many people might dismiss their objectivity.
In any case, I [Mike Adams] believe that the natural health community should cautiously embrace this ingredient for the time being. It is, after all, a hugely positive move for the food and beverage industry to be able to ditch aspartame and shift to an herbal sweetener. If anything, this is a monumental victory for natural health over synthetic chemicals. It's a victory that took over a decade to become a reality, but it has finally arrived in the United States thanks to this late decision by a reluctant FDA.
Watch for stevia-sweetened products to appear on store shelves everywhere. You'll also see lots of formulations that will combine stevia with other sweeteners to provide higher sweetness with fewer overall calories (and a lower glycemic index).
By the way, there's something really fishy going on between the FDA and Coca-Cola. I think they're at war over regulatory authority -- and Coca-Cola just trounced the FDA! Read my analysis of what's really happening with that situation here: http://www.naturalnews.com/News_000630_FDA_Coca-Cola_diet_coke.html
Lorraine here to advise you that I use stevia to sweeten my organic iced tea. It only takes a drop or two, so a bottle goes a long way. You might think that $18. for 8 fluid ounces is expensive (from a health food store) but that bottle may last me one year. By now (if you have been reading my "blogs") you know that I am passionate about health and nutrition. Visit my web site http://SeniorSecurity.MaxTrax4u.com for excellent nutritional supplements.

Forget About Resolutions--What's Your Mission?
Forget About Resolutions — What's Your Mission?
By Success Skills Coach Jim Rohrbach
"Where there is no vision, the people perish." Proverbs 29:18
If you're like most people, you've probably flirted around with New Year's resolutions: You've said, "THIS is the year I'm gonna lose weight and get in shape. Starting January 1, no more snacking. I'm joining the health club and I'm gonna work out daily. I may even do my first marathon." What happens? By March 1 (the latest ...) you're back on the junk food regimen, you've been to the club a total of five times (you're "just too busy to get there"), and you've filed that marathon application in the trash. And you've concluded, "Resolutions don't work for me." (You've got a lot of company on that one ...)
Maybe you need a better approach. Instead of making a mental resolution, create a Mission Statement. The difference?
A Mission Statement
*is a handwritten or typed-out paragraph
*is posted someplace you can see it regularly
*is committed to memory
*has specific, measurable outcomes
*has a deadline — in this case, December 31st [Lorraine here: Oops! missed that deadline but "Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today."]
Here's a process you can use right now to create a Mission Statement for personal success in your career or business. Get out a pen and some paper, or if you'd like to do this online, go to http://www.nightingale.com/mission_select.aspx.
Step A. Write down 5 positive personality characteristics you like about yourself in your career/business. For example: willingness to learn, persistence, creativity, friendliness, sense of humor.
Step B. For the items you listed above, describe the way you express each positive characteristic on a regular basis in your career, using the word "by" to begin each phrase. For example, if you listed "willingness to learn" above, you might write "by being committed to ongoing professional development" below. Another example: If you wrote "persistence" above, you might write "by making sure the job always gets done" below.
Step C. Write down 5 goals you’d like to achieve by one year from today. Be sure to list a specific financial goal separate from these 5 goals.
Step D. Look back over Steps A, B, and C, circling the 3 most important items in each column.
Step E. Now fill in the blanks of the following paragraph:
"My purpose is to express my __________________________ ,________________________, and ______________________ (write in the three items you circled in Step A) by
__________________________________________________,
by ________________________________________________, and by ____________________________________________ (write in the three items you circled in Step B) to create ___________________________________________________, ___________________________________________________ and _____________________________________________, (write in the three items you circled in Step C) and at least ____________ (write in your financial goal) by ___________ (write in the date one year from today)."
When finished, you will have a short paragraph that reads something like: "My purpose is to express my intelligence, creativity, and people skills by continually learning and applying new ideas, by finding unique solutions to my clients' problems, and by building a powerful network of contacts to create 15 new corporate accounts, a steady flow of referral and renewal business, and full technological competence, and at least $125,000 in gross commissions by this date one year from today."
I hope you give this deceptively simple exercise a try, and I encourage you to follow the guidelines above by posting it where you can review it, committing it to memory, and reciting it daily. Then you won't need to make any more fruitless resolutions — you'll be like The Blues Brothers ... you'll be on "a Mission from God."

The following message fits conveniently with Saturday's message regarding GMOs. I consider myself "a recovering coffeeholic." I've loved gourmet coffee!! I would buy organic beans, with gourmet flavors, and grind the beans just prior to preparing two cups of morning coffee. Alas, in the interest of better health and nutrition, I gave up coffee for organic green tea each morning. Reading the following article, and reading the several "links," tempts me to order. Almost...!

Genetically Modified Organisms
(NaturalNews) Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are created through an inexact science of shooting genes spliced from bacteria, viruses, insects, animals or humans with a .22 caliber pistol into the DNA of plants or animals laced with a metal such as tungsten. This unsafe science ostensibly supplants millions of years of evolution with little or no scientific justification. In fact, recent research on GMO crops have reported yields to be between 4 to 20 percent less than conventional crops.
In the 1970's when genetic engineered was pioneered, scientists believed the genome was static and genes could be altered in a uniform manner with the organism only expressing the one intended modification. As research progressed in the 1980's, scientists scrapped the idea of the static genome and moved towards a dynamic genomic belief model. This came about from the realization that by inserting a new gene into a plant, a cascade of unintended consequences arose. Scientists found that there was no possible way to introduce a new gene into an organism and only get one intended result. The genes quickly changed based on a myriad of unknown circumstances that sometimes could not be repeated in the lab even though the exact same procedures were used. The levels of instability from these newly created organisms were overwhelming, but many scientists were silenced.
Safety has always been the number one priority of consumers when it comes to GMOs; antithetically, the seed companies' only priority has been to increase profits at any expense. Therefore, it is no surprise that objective and unbiased researchers have recently added to the growing knowledge of the realities of the increased instability and unintended consequences regarding the long-term safety of GMOs. These researchers recently found clear links among the consumption of GM-corn and decreased fertility, immunological alterations in the gut and the exacerbation and creation of allergies.
Lorraine here: Read about the author of the above--and following--articles, Dr. Gregory Damato, at the end of this "blog." The previous article was quite long and contained very scientific jargon. You can find the entire article at http://www.NaturalNews.com/025001.html . You can read Dr. Damato's numerous articles at http://www.NaturalNews.com/Author494.html . Personally, I, Lorraine Edwards, do not want to eat genetically modified organisms. Notice in the first paragraph (below) that "...corporations...have gone through extensive measures to ensure the citizens of most nations have no possible way of knowing whether the food they...are eating contain contaminants of GMOs."
(NaturalNews) Recent polls across the world have consistently shown that, if they had a choice, 90% of people would actively seek to avoid GMOs (genetically modified organisms) in their food. The large multinational corporations of the world have gone through extensive measures to ensure the citizens of most nations have no possible way of knowing whether the food they and their children are eating contain contaminants of GMOs. The labelling of GMOs on the packaging of any foods in the US for example, is illegal. For example, if a company like Kellogg decided to include a full disclosure label on their cereal box that stated, "contains genetically modified corn" they could be sued by the manufacturer and then face possible prison time.
This is a very important issue because the democratic process of many nations has been surreptitiously supplanted by the corporatocracy of the seed company juggernauts. America has one of the highest levels of GMOs in their food chain in the western world with up to 85% of its prepackaged and processed foods coming from genetic engineering. The people have never asked for GMOs- but got them anyway. The people then asked that they be properly labeled so they could avoid them- they were ignored. Therefore, seeing how our health freedom and well-being is consistently under attack from large multi-national corporations only seeking to increase profits at the expense of our health, what are we to do?
What we can do is simply try to avoid the GMO contaminants altogether and be extremely vigilant of how we spend our money and which companies we are choosing to support. Here are five simple and effective ways to decrease your contact with untested, toxic and dangerous GMOs.
1.) Buy Locally Produced Food
For now, GMOs are only used by large multinational corporations who buy direct from large farms. Produce from local mom and pop farmers have yet to become genetically modified. Purchasing locally grown food supports your local farmers and your health. Not to worry about GMO tomatoes and potatoes as they have all been pulled from the market.
2.) Buy Organically Grown Food
For now, the organic certification process is a relatively safe bet to ensure your food is free of GMOs, although this may not be the case in the future. Help support global sustainability by purchasing certified organically grown food.
3.) Avoid the Top Four GMO Crops of Soy, Corn, Canola and Cottonseed
This is a bit tricky as most blended oils in North America contain canola and cottonseed. Whenever you go out to dinner and receive anything fried, you are most likely consuming GMOs from the oil, not to mention transfat. A way around this would be to purchase 100% extra virgin olive oil, but be sure to avoid the term olive oil as most of it is blended with some GMO cottonseed or canola. Unless it specifically states "Non-GMO" or some derivation on the label, it most likely contains GMOs.
Likewise, any time you consume corn chips, tacos or soy milk, you are eating GMOs, again unless it specifically states Non-GMO or is organic.
4.) Avoid Artificial Additives and Sweeteners
Most of us are aware of the dangers behind the artificial sweetener and excitotoxin, aspartame (known as preservative E951), but may not be aware that it is created using genetic modification. Even the majority of vitamin C (ascorbic Acid) and many B vitamins have been created via genetic modification. A Japanese company was forced to pull GMO L-Tryptophan off the market in 1989 after thousands of people became severely ill with many developing an extremely rare blood disorder called, Esinophilia-Myalgia Syndrome (EMS), although the FDA never publicly mentioned that GMO contamination was the true cause of the recall.
5.) Look For the Non-GMO Label
This includes all animals used for food because most are typically fed GMO feed. If it does not state Non-GMO on the label, then email the manufacturer and ask if they use GMO feed. It is best to attempt to contact all of the manufacturers of the foods you generally eat on a daily or even weekly basis and determine whether GMOs ingredients are utilized in the food. You have a fundamental right to know whether the foods you are consuming have been contaminated with GMOs. When in doubt always look for the Non-GMO label, and unfortunately assume that it has been genetically modified unless the opposite have been explicitly stated.

Feel-Good Fruit for Winter Blues
The whirlwind holiday season has finally passed, and now you’re feeling . . . sad? For a quick pick-me-up, grab a banana.
Not only do bananas help you think faster, but they help you think happier thoughts, too. That’s why RealAge experts Mehmet Oz, MD, and Michael Roizen, MD, recommend having a daily banana.
Mind, Body, and Soul Fruit
Eating a banana a day may help your brain cells communicate better and enhance the effects of feel-good neurotransmitters, such as serotonin. Antioxidant-rich bananas are also a great source of vitamin B6, a nutrient credited with helping guard against Parkinson’s disease.
Go Bananas
Need more reasons to eat bananas? Besides making your wits quicker, they’ll also: Reduce your risk of kidney cancer, and help keep your blood pressure steady because they’re full of potassium.
RealAge Benefit: Eating a diverse diet that includes 4 servings of fruit per day can make your RealAge as much as 4 years younger.
I'll be honest with you. I'm much happier now that the holidays are over!! The period between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day are the saddest days of the year for me!! So-o-o-o, Lorraine's saying let's go buy some bananas and have a happy, healthy day!! I enhance my vegan diet with vitamin-rich Max N-Fuze. There are only two ways to live your life....
It has been a strange New Year's Day. I watched the Rose Parade from Pasadena. I've watched it for decades and always feel a "loss" when circumstances prevent me from viewing the Parade. Two years ago, I was the "companion" to a 96 year old lady (in Concord, NC) and she said "I hate parades." Obviously I didn't see the parade!! We were eleven miles out of Concord, and twenty miles from Charlotte, so the "rabbit ears" on my TV, in the RV, did not pick up the signal. Incidently, twenty-five years ago I was one of the million-plus viewers along the parade route in Pasadena, California. It is awesome to see "up close" plus "beyond description" to see the floats on display at the end of the route.
Perhaps prompted by the segment on the Today show (see my Dec. 29, '08 "blog") I found myself going through my cupboards pulling out food items. As I rearranged them, I marked them "2008." If they are still around this time next year, maybe I'll discard them?! Remember the subject of the TV segment was to toss all your spices, and food items, over a year old (and cosmetics, too). In an effort to use some of my "old" canned goods, I'm preparing a vegetarian chili with several cans of organic beans. I normally prepare dry beans but I guess, subconsciously, I think there may be some merit to using the food items before they get any older (ha!). Last year, New Year's Day, I followed an old "Southern" custom and prepared blackeye peas and collard greens. When in the South, do as the Southerners do?! I believe the custom also calls for ham, or pork, but I don't eat meat.
On a very, very positive note, I received a sixteen page Newsletter from Los Angeles County Employees Retirement Association and the front page declares in large print: LACERA's Fund is Positioned to Withstand the Current Financial Downturn. This is awesome news in light of all the institutions that are going "belly up" and the number of people who are newly unemployed.
Some of my readers know that I am working on a Network Marketing business to create extra income during this Recession (extra income to pay the rent and utilities). I've been afraid Los Angeles County might "go broke" too!! This Newsletter is such good news for me!! (How about you? Do you still have your job?? or your retirement?? If you are looking for an extra source of income, consider joining me in a nutritional supplement company.)
I'm also sorting through a stack of publications, reading them, and discarding them. I saw this quote attributed to Albert Einstein: "There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle." I subscribe to the latter.
Until next time, Lorraine wishing you a healthy and very Happy New Year!!
