Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman

I took "Walking Down Memory Lane" to another level today. Shopping at Sam's Club, I found a four CD package of Elvis singing gospel. I was never a fan of Elvis' secular music but these recordings are very inspirational. (I love to have gospel music, or hymns, playing while I work on "projects.")

Furthermore, miraculously (!) the entire six seasons series of Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman on DVDs (total of 42). It was the last one and reduced from $125. to $87. I couldn't believe my eyes!! An extravagant purchase!! I justify my action to thrift in other areas: TracFone cell phone (so no monthly fee); WiFi (so, likewise, no monthly fee) and TV reception via "rabbit ears" (no cable or satel-lite). My spending spree with money from the President's stimulus package. (So much for "downsizing," huh?!) Speaking of "thrift": I listen to CDs on a ten year old portable combination radio, tape and CD player.

My Sam's purchases included: Organic baby spring (salad) mix, tomatoes on the vine, celery hearts..., plus top quality all natural, cold pressed, extra virgin olive oil and top quality apple cider vinegar. Yes, oil and vinegar exclusively on my salads!! (Processed salad dressing should be avoided, in my humble opinion. Most contain high fructose corn syrup--and ingredients you can't pronounce.) ~~ Because I feel so blessed (!) I also bought Kraft Mac & Cheese, Starkist tuna, and Progresso soup to donate to the Senior Center.

Oh, What a Beautiful Day !!

Very little time spent at the computer. Today I cleaned and vacuumed. It was a beautiful sunny day without humidity. As much as I would have liked to take a long walk--in the ideal weather--it was also an ideal day for some deep cleaning!! More "for sale" items went into the trailer. My living room isn't cluttered with boxes!! I wouldn't have to apologize if someone, unexpectedly, stopped by for a visit.

Maybe I should elaborate here on information posted May 9th for the "three month anniversary." I'm feeling healthy again after long months of illness due to acute ozone poisoning. I didn't have the energy--nor desire--to "do" anything. I spent most of the day in front of the computer because that didn't require any energy--and took my mind off how sick I felt. Feeling "good" is such a joy to me!!!! Now I'm attempting to "catch up" in areas I have neglected.

I'm very tempted to haul the "stuff" loaded in my KIA and trailer to a local Thrift Shop. Then pack some clothes, and fruit and veggies, into the vehicles and take off for the Blue Ridge Parkway, or the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina. More rain anticipated for the middle of next week but eventually (hopefully) we'll have enjoyable weather. If I off-load the items designated for a Flea Market, I can travel a short distance to exceedingly beautiful places. (Because I watch UNC-TV public broadcasting, I know there are awesome things to see within a day's journey from Shelby.)

Walking Down Memory Lane

If you've read my messages over the last week, you know I have been walking down Memory Lane while "downsizing." I just found this poem and thought I'd share with you. No date on the old brown newspaper clipping, nor indication of the publication. (Could "Bicentennial" be a clue indicating 1976?)

"Bicentennial Tea on Tuesday at the Community House"

"About sixty people called during the afternoon to see the interesting exhibit of family heirlooms, ranging from crude wooden utensils to an elaborate wedding outfit displayed by Mrs. R.C. Turner. Several women related unusual facts about items they had on display. Miss Nona Slappy acted as a judge. One of the members read an original poem written for the occasion."

Do You Remember?

Do you remember hearing your grandmother tell
How she drew the water from the back yard well;
And how she boiled it in the kettle and big wash pot;
And milked the cows that were kept in the lot?

How she strained the milk in a crockery churn
And set it near the fire to make it turn;
How she made the bread in a big wooden tray;
And served it hot three times a day.

How she made hominy with home-made lye;
For there wasn't any canned she could buy.
How the apples and peaches they carefully dried;
And in their home they felt great pride.

How she put potatoes in hot ashes to bake
And at Christmas time many cakes she'd make.
How she heated the irons by the hot coals, too,
While above them she cooked a pot of stew?

How she pieced many quilts in patterns so rare,
While grandpa fashioned a table or chair,
How she made tea cakes and pulled syrup candy;
And how everyone thought them fine and dandy.

How she scrubbed the floors in every room
With white sand and a corn shuck broom;
How she gathered straw to make her brooms,
And worked long hours at the wheel and loom.

How she spun the thread and the coverlets wove,
And brought in wood for the iron stove;
And how in a two-horse wagon they'd ride,
And how careful she was her ankles to hide.

How she wore a sunbonnet to protect her skin;
For no young lady wanted a sun-tan then.
How she drank water from a gourd with a handle
And wrote on a slate by the light of a candle.

And how her "Pa" made syrup from sorghum cane
And her "Ma" dried lard with the moon on the wane.
How her "Pa" killed hogs and cured his meat;
And hunted rabbits and quail for the family to eat.

How they called the farm hands by ringing the bell;
Or rang it loudly for fire or danger to tell.
How they planted the garden when the moon was right;
And started to work before it was light.

In those days there was little time for play
And no one had heard of an eight-hour day;
I'm sure there are many other things you can recall
But time won't permit us telling them all.

I hope you've enjoyed this glimpse of the past
And that memories of today, long will last.
................. Lucy Clark

Yes, I remember hearing my Grandmother [Ina Bird (Smith) Showalter] talk about these things. Visiting their farm near Ashland, Oregon, (almost 70 years ago) I remember that food, and fresh milk, was chilled in the creek. They milked the cows, they harvested the apples and pears; they pumped the water from the back yard well, and used oil lamps. Twenty-plus years later I listened to them reveal details about their life.

A Penny For My Thoughts??

I awakened (about 5) to the sound of rain running off the roof. We had ground fog--or a cloud touching the ground?! Birds were twittering!! This rainy weather is unseasonable. Extreme heat in the West!! And California is preparing for "The Big One." (I experienced several earthquakes while living in Los Angeles County.) Have we created our weather problems by abusing the environment?? (I'll leave that question for you, and others, to answer. I do my small part by recycling and buying earth-friendly products.)

Yesterday afternoon I tackled an apple box full of VHS cassettes. I planned to bundle them in smaller packages, for sale, at future Flea Markets. Guess what? I got side-tracked watching "Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman." I loved that series!! (And "Christy," too!!) I taped them... and "Hallmark Hall of Fame" programs. Still great, and inspirational, viewing!! I'm tempted to watch them before I sell them, or give them away. Is there any market for old VHS privately taped programs (full of commercials)??

I'm such a sentimental old fool!! I believe in morality, values, integrity.... Dr. Quinn was still a virgin when she married Sully. We don't see wholesome television programming any more (in my humble opinion). Hallmark Hall of Fame is the admirable exception. What messages are indelibly printed on the minds of my grandchildren and great grandchildren??

As I process through boxes, and slowly "down-size," I walk down "Memory Lane." A picture album of my marriage to Don Edwards on May 29, 1977. We were married in the beautiful gardens of Westmont College near Santa Barbara, California. (I've wondered if the recent terrible fires damaged the campus.) Don died in 1983. I haven't dated..., I have been celibate. (Too much information?? Sorry!! Just trying to make a point about morality.) The world is moving at "
warp speed." Now we have digital TV; the old analog signal will soon be obsolete. People are so busy they don't have time to get acquainted with their neighbors. Now everyone carries a cell phone, or Black Berry (or some other name sophisticated gadget), and they text, and twitter. They listen to an I-Pod. (Do they ever hear the birds "twitter" as I did this morning??)

I confess that I use, and enjoy, my laptop computer (with WiFi). I'm grateful that I can rely on "spell check" before I post e-mail messages, or a blog. But I'm, by nature, a good speller--and I have dictionaries. I'm shocked by the misspellings, and poor grammar, in most of the messages I read. And, honestly, I don't understand the abbreviations!! Someone advised me that LOL is "laughing out loud" and not "lots of love." I understand that our words--on the Internet--will be "out there" (in cyberspace) forever. I don't want my grandchildren to read illiterate messages!!

I frequently use the Google search engine to find information (and that's a very good thing, in my humble opinion). I Googled Joe Lando yesterday because I was curious about what happened to him (I haven't seen him on TV since Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman). ~~ Thanks to Google (2/09/09) I found the answer to
my illness and I'm grateful for that "warp speed" technology.

As I said, I'm walking down "Memory Lane" (and how grateful I am that I do not have Alzheimer's or dementia). When we get old, Society puts us on the back shelf. Employers don't want Senior Citizens--although Seniors can read, write, spell, punctuate, and carry on a conversation with good grammar. Children are "too busy" with their active lives to look in on their parents. (Almost every Senior I talk to has little, or no, connection with their children and grandchildren. How tragic!!) I have an over-abundance of time to process through a lifetime collection of possessions. Better to give away while I can experience the joy...; better to spend some time at local Flea Markets where I interact with people. (I had several conversations, recently, about health and nutrition. Maybe that is why God leaves me on this earth?? I can share my thirty-plus years knowledge re: health.)

I woke up this morning with an old hymn playing over-and-over in my mind:
"Many things about tomorrow,
I don't seem to understand,
But I know Who holds the future,
and I know Who holds my hand."

I'll leave you with the link to an
inspirational message I received as an e-mail this morning.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Postscript: It's 4:15 PM and we are experiencing torrential rain, lightening and thunder!! I felt so sorry for students dashing home from their school bus. I'm sure they got thoroughly soaked!! The weatherman says a "cold mass" (from the West) perpetrated this storm. Thankfully, the air has cooled from the extreme humidity!! ~~ Earlier today, between rain showers, I walked back-and-forth to the laundry room and did two loads of laundry. Clean clothes--and recent grocery purchases--mean I could isolate myself in my apartment for an extended period of time. It seems I'm ordained to work on the downsizing project!!
The Joy of Giving
It has been a very good day!! First, read the postscript on Monday, May 25th blog. Since noon, 1) I've unhitched the trailer, 2) showered and dressed, 3) loaded two boxes and a large bag into the KIA; and 4) delivered the door prize items (#3) to the local Senior Center. Yes, they were delighted!! At Office Max: 5) I researched the prices of the stationary items I'll donate to the Senior Center. At the market: 6) I purchased canned goods for the Senior Center's Food Pantry (because so many people requesting groceries). Fruit and veggies for myself: grapefruit, bananas, Fuji apples, avocado, bell peppers, and cucumber. (I already had organic mixed baby salad greens, and carrots, at home.) I'm enjoying a large delicious salad as I write this blog!!
Sunshine all afternoon but on the local TV evening news, they are telling about the "heavy and relentless" rain today, and dangerous "flooding." "One to two inches [rain] per hour." According to the weatherman, I will be experiencing more hard rain within the hour--and the tropical pattern will continue through the rest of the week.
I'm grateful that I delivered my donation, and bought additional food for myself. Also, especially noteworthy: Three empty cardboard boxes went into the trash bins here at the apartment complex!!
Copied from
Care2makeadifference.
"Giving thanks can make all the difference in the world.
Gratitude raises your energy in a positive way and brings
abundance into your life and the lives of others."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Postscript, 1:30 PM, Wednesday, May 27, 2009: Overcast, but no rain this morning. I went into town for more groceries (for the Food Pantry), and delivered lots of food, and office supplies, to the Senior Center. I barely got back home before it started raining (for fifth day in a row).

One Track Mind

It was a rainy day (yesterday) that prevented the running of 50th Anniversary Coca Cola 600. Likewise torrential rain today so the postponed NASCAR race was a big disappointment for fans. Personally, I have no interest in that sport but it's a BIG event for Charlotte.

I spent the day removing boxes from neat stacks, exploring the contents, extracting items. I rearranged... and can see that down sizing is conspicuous!! If nothing else is accomplished, I am quickly getting all similar items in the same box or the same location. I ended up with duplicates because, on two occasions, the bulk of my belongings were in storage. So I bought another ream of paper, another box of envelopes, additional felt markers, more pens, etc.

There's no way to measure the amount of exercise (today) but I "know" it was significant!! I have "a one tracked mind," and the weatherman says tropical storms all week, so my task is ordained!! Boring, huh??

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
12 noon Tues., May 26, 2009: Ditto yesterday!!
I've lifted, and rearranged more than a dozen heavy boxes. So far, only one empty box for the trash receptacle. I'm not finished for the day; I'm just taking a break!! (Checked my e-mail.) I'm destined to keep about one hundred boxes until I die--and then my sons can decide what to do with them.
For many years I was very involved with genealogy. I collected a massive amount of information about my ancestors. I published two books. If I understood correctly the rules regarding copyright, I need to keep all the documentation. Imagine, if you will, several large sturdy apple boxes full of original pages for Frantz Families--Kith & Kin (FF-KK), and LaVerne Evergreen Cemetery Tombstone Inscriptions. Extremely heavy boxes!!!!
The bulk of my genealogy library was donated to Brethren Heritage Center in Brookville, Ohio (in 2004). I tried to give them the copyright to FF-KK. So I have boxes of data regarding my non-Brethren ancestors: Alderfer, Coffin, Frye, Hume, Smith, Traxler, Showalter, and others. I'd love to pick up the hobby again; I loved it!!
Furthermore, I still have a lot of items related to traveling with a recreation vehicle (RV). I plan to put some of those items out at a Flea Market (at a later date) but am attempting to sell larger items (EcoQuest air purifiers) first. As it is, my KIA and Teardrop trailer are packed with items for sale. I can't squeeze anything else into my vehicles!!
As I explore boxes, arrange and rearrange... I'm creating an area with items for sale--or to donate to a Thrift Shop. I think I'm making progress with my project!!
We had extremely hard rain off-and-on all morning. It looks like we might have sunshine soon!? I want to unhook the trailer... and I want to deliver my donation to the Senior Center. Oh, the wonderful feeling that accompanies my down sizing!! (Fatigue too!!)
Down sizing!!
Subconsciously, I must have answered my question from yesterday. This afternoon, without any hesitation, I started packing new items into several boxes--destined for our local Senior Center. They recently made an appeal for "door prizes" and office supplies. I think they will be delighted with my donation!!
By nature, I am a "gift giver" and I often buy attractive items (usually on sale) for birthdays, anniversaries, and Christmas. Scented candles, in decorator tins or lovely holders, can't go wrong (in my humble opinion)!! I won't elaborate--but the items fill two boxes and a large plastic bag!! Some of the things date back to my life in Southern California. I bought a lot of things for door prizes for an RV rally (a rally that was aborted): Patriotic pewter magnets (RVers like things that don't take a lot of space); beautiful souvenir key chains; journals....
I've documented the donation in Turbo Tax "It's Deductible" so the info will be available for next year's Income Taxes. (Not that my donations make much difference--if any--in the refund.)
I've had a "home office" for decades for my several businesses. Perhaps some of the envelopes, markers, pens, etc., etc., can be used at the local Senior Center?!?! I know that--in my lifetime--I'll never use all of these things!! (Perhaps the Senior Center in Lancaster California could have used them but I, foolishly, hauled everything I owned from West coast to East coast.)
Two well-traveled, somewhat shabby, empty cardboard boxes are destined for the trash receptacle. I accomplished a little "down sizing"!!
I have two computers, two printers, scanner, and Palm Pilot set aside to donate to an organization I found on-line. Have you heard of
Computers with Causes??
On the Horns of a Dilemma
Idiom Definitions for 'Horns of a dilemma'
-----------------------------------------------------
If you are on the horns of a dilemma, you are faced with two equally unpleasant options and have to choose one. View examples in Google: Horns of a dilemma
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This weekend, and last weekend, I "set up" four (4) Flea Market booths. I was up early each morning (with perhaps little sleep) and actively involved with the project until early afternoon. I arrived home exhausted!! Rain--on May 15th & 16th--limited the number of customers.
A beautiful day--May 22nd--but I am suffering from a sun burn!! Today--(23rd)--lots of customers, no rain, beautiful day!! But I'm home and I don't have a teaspoon full of energy; I'm exhausted beyond exhausted!!
What do I do?? As I exercise this old body after months of inactivity (and acute ozone poisoning) will the project eventually cause less fatigue?? (That's my hope and prayer!!)
Or, should I abandon the labor of unpacking, and displaying, items I wish to "down size"?? Set up tables, arrange display.... Later, pack things up, fold down tables....
The sales are few because people are hard-pressed for money and looking for bargains. (They're buying discounted food items from an adjacent booth.) They don't want to pay $400. for a $769. Fresh Air EcoQuest air purifier!! They don't want to pay $175. for a $300. Blue Ox "top of the line" bike rack (that is extremely heavy and wears me out lifting it!!). Honestly, people don't even want to pay $1. for nice "stuff." I have a large box full of items that are free with a purchase!! (Everybody likes "free," don't they??) Furthermore, I have several signs indicating "my prices are negotiable."
So, what do I do?? Do I look at the physical exercise as very worthwhile health wise--with a monetary reward?? Or, physically unload all the merchandise (from my KIA and Teardrop trailer) at the local Habitat for Humanity ReStore and have a receipt for next year's Income Taxes?? UNLOAD the problem?? or continue status qua??
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Prayer of Hope [from Prayer of the Day, from BeliefNet]
O Lord, in Whom is our hope, remove far from us, we pray Thee, empty hopes and presumptuous confidence. Make our hearts so right with Thy most holy and loving heart, that hoping in Thee we may do good; until that day when faith and hope shall be abolished by sight and possession, and love shall be all in all.
Fast Food = Healthy?
Dear readers, (from Mike Adams, NaturalNews Editor)
Fast Food = Healthy? "Raw in 10 Minutes" by Bryan Au Reveals Fast, Healthy Raw Foods Recipes
At a fun-filled social gathering, I nearly flipped out when a raw foods friend of mine served up a plate of Super Nachos on an oversized platter. It wasn't made of fried corn chips and cheese, however: It was made from 100% raw foods and superfoods loaded with healing phytonutrients.
But that hardly mattered in the moment: The taste was so good, we dug in and devoured the whole platter in about two minutes, then begged for more. "No problem," my friend said. "I can make another batch in less than five minutes."
Five minutes? How was he creating this superfood cuisine in mere minutes? And when I asked, he tossed me a copy of an astonishing recipe book I want to tell you about. It's called Raw In 10 Minutes by Bryan Au, and it's the world's greatest recipe book on creating what I call "raw fast food" in under 10 minutes.
Guilt-free fast food that actually protects your health...
Craving a burrito or lasagna? How about pizza boats, cookies, grilled cheese sandwiches, pancakes or triple-layer chocolate cake? How would you like to eat all this food completely free of guilt, knowing that you're supporting your own health with the best healing foods on the planet? And get this -- you can prepare these recipes in under ten minutes flat!
Everybody knows about the healing power of raw foods, but some people have felt intimidated by the long preparation time typically involved. Bryan Au has solved that problem with this amazing "raw fast food" recipe book called Raw In 10 Minutes.
The most incredible "raw fast food" recipe book I've ever discovered...
Packing in 79 mouth-watering raw foods recipes -- all clocking in under 10 minutes! -- this book became an instant favorite in my own kitchen, and it's been getting rave reviews across the raw foods community.
You've got to see this to believe it... eat raw Macaroni & Cheese, Triple-Layer Chocolate Cake, Pancakes, Super Nachos, Burritos, Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, Lasagna and more -- all 100% raw, healthy and completely, utterly guilt-free!
Each meal takes no more than ten minutes to prep from start to finish, and it's all spelled out for you in clear, concise step-by-step instructions in Raw In 10 Minutes.
Order it right now from Truth Publishing or read [at that site] details about the amazing recipes the book contains.
Your Health is Your Wealth
Protect Us From Compulsory Vaccination, Drugging
Demand Protection from Mandatory Vaccination, Drugging or Sanctions, Including Internment and Quarantine In the Event of a Pandemic
CDC and WHO are predicting that the H1N1 Swine Flu will be back this fall in a new and deadly form. Since the organism appears to have been man made, this prediction may be one they can make accurately.
They also say that a new vaccine will be ready for deployment at the very time when the H1N1 Pandemic virus circulates around the globe and are proposing universal (mandatory) vaccination, starting with our most vulnerable: the very young and the very old.
The White House is proposing vaccination for both seasonal flu AND H1N1 flu although the total number of US fatalities to date from H1N1 has reached a total of 2. [Total of five deaths reported on TV news at 6 PM 5/18.]
State Emergency Medical Powers Acts and Federal legislation, including the Patriot Acts I, II and III, BARDA and others provide for mandatory vaccination or drugging. No exemptions are provided. Those who refuse will be classified as felons at the State level, subject to immediate incarceration and quarantine of indefinite length in jails or other facilities reserved for such refusers.
Those who refuse at the Federal level will be subject to immediate incarceration and quarantine of indefinite length, probably in FEMA camps set up across the US.
That means that untested, potentially lethal vaccines and dangerous drugs like Tamiflu could be forced upon people who do not wish them and who would face incarceration or worse if they choose not to accept them. The CDC has said that there would be no exemptions and that there would be "a certain amount of human wastage".
Vaccine manufacturers are exempt, thanks to Congress and the FDA, from any legal liability for damage or death from these dangerous drugs.
The vaccines produced for the bioengineered H1N1 Pandemic will not have been tested by the time they are delivered into our bodies and those of our children in the fall of 2009, if the World Health Organization and CDC are to be believed.
The US Constitution prohibits both slavery and indentured servitude, two conditions in which the body of one person is controlled totally by another person, the "master". Please send the following letter [at the site], modified as you prefer. Then send this action item link, http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/568/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=27275 , to every person on your list, all organizations which care about health, freedom and liberty and urge them to do the same.
Thank you for your strong and immediate action.
Yours in health and freedom,
Health Freedom and the forced chemotherapy of Daniel Hauser
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chemo trial begins today
By Dan Linehan
Free Press Staff Writer
NEW ULM —
Colleen and Anthony Hauser of Sleepy Eye believe that traditional medicine and a healthy diet, not chemotherapy, is the best way to treat their 13-year-old son’s cancer.
But Brown County has filed a petition arguing that not performing chemotherapy constitutes neglect because doctors say the child, Daniel Hauser, has a much larger chance of dying without it. The county’s petition seeks to force the family to go through with the chemotherapy.
District Judge John Rodenberg will hear testimony in the case today. If both sides aren’t finished in one day the court will take the unusual step of hearing the case on Saturday because time is a factor with cancer treatment.
The case navigates the “very fine line between parents’ rights to manage their child’s welfare and the state’s rights to protect children,” Brown County Attorney James Olson said.
He said the county and the Hausers disagree about how best to protect Daniel, but says both sides have good motives.
Postscript 5/21/09: ...the Disturbing Fate of 13-Year-Old Daniel Hauser
(NaturalNews) You see it in newspapers and websites across the 'net: People insisting that 13-year-old Daniel Hauser must be injected with chemotherapy in order to "save his life," and that anyone refusing to go along with that is a criminal deserving of arrest and imprisonment.
What's most astonishing about the mainstream reaction to the forced chemotherapy of Daniel Hauser is not merely that they believe states now own the children, but that they believe in the entire world there exists but one single treatment for cancer, and it happens to be the one that makes pharmaceutical companies the most money. The arrogance (and ignorance) of that position is mind boggling.
Rain, rain, go away!!
I've only been home a few minutes (11:15). I was "doing" another Flea Market and got rained out!! I arrived at 6:30 AM, and it took a couple of hours to put everything out. People started arriving about 8 (and that's a good thing!) but the rain made an appearance about 9. Vendors packed up quickly and departed. I shoved wet things into the KIA and trailer--and held my breathe that we'd soon have sunshine. Just as suddenly as the rain came--it went. I started drying things off and anticipated I would spend the morning with two dozen other "die hard" vendors. The sky opened up and we got another drenching!! I quickly packed the remaining items and headed for the apartment. As soon as possible I'll unload things and put on the front porch to "air dry" cardboard boxes. I definitely don't want all those wet things in my vehicles for any length of time!! I didn't make a single sale; the space cost $5.00. However, I met some very nice people, had interesting conversations, and now know where to buy farm-fresh produce.
Hearty homemade vegetable soup
The weatherman predicted cooler weather for next week--so I decided to make some soup. Over night, I thawed several containers of leftover homemade soups (from recent months). I blended the contents in the VitaMix so I have a very rich broth of cabbage, carrots, celery, garlic, onions, and canned tomatoes. To that yummy broth I am adding baby carrots, onions, turnips, and small red potatoes. ~~ My diet is primarily raw fruits and vegetables. However, sometimes I crave a hearty vegetable soup. As silly as it may sound, I think our body talks to us and tells us (by our craving) what we need. I won't eat it all (it's a big kettle full) so some will go back into the freezer with a May date on the label.
Junk in the Trunk
I had a sleepless night, and a long day!! At 7:15 this morning I drove the short distance to our local Senior Center. I joined a large group of vendors in the parking lot and we "set up" our booths for "Junk in the Trunk" (fancy name for a Flea Market).
Fog shrouded the area, and limited visibility. Over the next several hours we had dark clouds, mist, rain sprinkles, and eventually weak sunshine. Vendors speculated that the weather prompted customers to stay home!! As early as 10, people were packing their "junk," folding their tables and leaving. I stayed until noon--and was the last to leave!! We "contracted" to be at the location until 2 PM and I take my commitments seriously.
A free "picnic" had been prepared for vendors, and customers. However, I took my own food because I follow a vegetarian diet. Alone, on the patio, I ate my sandwich, bell pepper, and baby carrots. I had a banana mid morning; I didn't get around to the apple. Tomorrow I'll pack a similar lunch.
The KIA and trailer are loaded with items "for sale." Early tomorrow morning I'll set up at a local Flea Market. Sad thing: The weather is predicted to be a carbon copy of today!!
It is my desire to "down size" my possessions over the next several months. I'll probably experience a wide variety of weather conditions!! But I want to emphasize that I am grateful that my health permits me to do the preparations, and execute the event(s). I remember how sick I was a few short months ago!! Yes, I'm tired this evening but I have enough energy to stay up until 11 so I can watch "Farrah's Story" between 9 and 11. (Read my May 13th "blog.")
~~~~~~

Postscript: I watched... and I agonized with Farrah. As sick as I was, it is insignificant compared to her suffering!!

If you have been following my "blog" you are aware that I am now very cautious about alleged money making opportunities. I'm still doing "research" regarding Global Domains International (GDI). There is one complaint on RipoffReport followed by numerous positive comments, and rebuttals. I'd like the reader to join my GDI team but I believe you should be well informed before investing $10.00. The following comment was copied directly from RipoffReport.

Successful Happy GDI Affiliate Here (D Marie, Penfield, New York, U.S.A.)

I have been successfully promoting Global Domains International for over 2 years now, and I have to say it has been the best network-marketing company I have ever promoted, by far.

The reason it has been so successful for me are the free tools like landing pages and video sites GDI makes available for their members. Without the ability of the new GDI members to input their user name code into one of GDI's promotional video sites instantly, my downline would not be in 180 countries now.

The websites GDI offers are viable and many of my members only use the websites. We chose not to use the GDI website builder because I like to make my sites look gorgeous and very unique so I used a different builder to do this. If I showed you what the GDI website product could really look like they would probably remove my links, so I will just tell you... my GDI sites all end in .ws and one globaldomainsint which you can find in the top 5 on Google and AOL and MSN and my other one is makemoneyhome which you can find at the top of MSN.

I have to tell you. I am not rich, but GDI has been providing over 1/2 of my income for the past 2 years and they are never late with a check.

They do what they say they will do. I have not known any other business opportunity that gives you back so much for so little (the $10 a month they charge) and this is a breath of fresh air, especially in this day and age.

See how another woman built a lucrative income working from home. (It takes a few seconds to download the video, followed by brief advertisement. Then enjoy the interview.)

Farrah's Story

[Farrah's battle ended 6/25/2009]

NBC News has licensed and will repackage footage of Farrah Fawcett's battle with cancer for a special to air... [Friday 5/15].

"Farrah's Story," a two-hour special, will air May 15 at 9 p.m. It will include video Fawcett shot during her struggle with anal cancer.

"This film is very personal," said Fawcett, 62, in one of the clips. "At the time, I didn't know if anybody would ever see it. But at some point, the footage took on a life of its own and dictated that it be seen."

Her health has been the subject of much speculation recently, after she went abroad for treatment. Last month, with reports surfacing that she was near death, Craig Nevius, a producer on the NBC special, said Fawcett's cancer had metastasized and spread to her liver.

"She's doing fantastic," he said then. "Her fight goes on. ... She's not going anywhere anytime soon."

Fawcett was diagnosed with cancer in 2006 and had surgery to remove a tumor. After chemotherapy, she was said to be cancer free. But the disease returned in 2007.

Her friend Alana Stewart shot most of the video in the special. Also appearing will be long-time love Ryan O'Neal, Jaclyn Smith, Kate Jackson, Fawcett's father, Jim, and her doctors.

NBC paid an undisclosed fee to license the footage and is producing it in conjunction with Fawcett.

"This is an incredibly intimate and moving story about Farrah's struggle," Doug Vaughan, NBC's senior vice president of specials and alternative development, said in a statement. "Farrah wanted us to see the face of cancer and she wanted to set the record straight regarding her diagnosis, her treatment and her outlook on the future."

Much more....

Ryan O'Neals's heartbreak.

Dear Lorraine,

The following is an incredible cancer story and testimony of Nick Kairinos and the truth about cancer.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Friends:
As most of you know, I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bladder cancer in 2005. Until recently, I was working with doctors to treat this disease. It's now over 2 years later and I am no better off than I was when I was first diagnosed!
I recently realized that depending on doctors will never lead to a cure. I have taken responsibility for my cancer and I know that I caused it through poor lifestyle choices over the last 5 years. Stress and genetics have played a small role too, but my lifestyle caused it. Had it not been for poor nutrition, wallowing in negative emotion, having no faith, not exercising, and negative thinking, I would not have cancer today. I have no doubt that this is true. Cancer (and all other serious disease) according to Dr. Robert O. Young is not something that strikes us. It's something we do to ourselves.
Fortunately, it's also something we can undo...
In late June, I met with my doctors to discuss the results of my recent tests and biopsy. It was then that I found out that, despite all the medical treatment, things had only become worse. The only option the doctors could provide was radical surgery that would change my life completely. I won't go into the graphic details here, but believe me...it's life altering and fraught with risks, including elevated risks of other types of cancer. Riding the tube to Heathrow, I had a moment of clarity. I knew I had to heal myself with what nature has provided.
My story - and what I'm doing to cure myself of cancer - continues on my website, which is still a work-in-progress... http://www.stopdoingcancer.com/.
Please check it out and spread the word about it, especially to people who have been touched by cancer and have possibly been sent home to die. The only true cure for cancer is through natural means -
* proper nutrition
* healthy emotion
* regular exercise
* strong faith, and
* positive thinking.
I have made myself a guinea pig in a scientific experiment, to prove to the world that this is so.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Robert and Shelley Young for all their research, sacrafice and hard work and all of you for your love, kindness, and support over the last couple of years. I don't know how I would have made it through the last few years without you. Please help me get this message out. It's extremely important to me.
All the best,
Nick Kairinos
Dear Lorraine,
Cancer is a choice. This is what cancer patient and founder of http://www.stopdoingcancer.com/ - Nick Kay - believes as he perseveres in his battle against cancer.
Nick is in his 30's and has an aggressive form of bladder cancer. For the past few years, doctors have tried to treat Nick's cancer in a number of different ways, but nothing has worked. As a last resort, doctors proposed radical, life changing surgery. But Nick wasn't ready to take such a drastic step and, against the advice of his medical team, decided to treat his cancer using only natural means. Nick's doctors were not supportive of this decision, telling Nick that he would not see his children grow up unless he agreed to the surgery.
In 2007, Nick launched StopDoingCancer.com - a not-for-profit web site where Nick talks candidly about his battle against cancer. What makes StopDoingCancer.com unique is that unlike other web sites about cancer on the Internet - most of which offer general information about cancer or try to sell commercial products - Nick is sharing his personal experiences and findings as they are happening, hoping he will help and inspire others.
What Nick shares goes far beyond a written diary: his web site offers detailed and personal information, such as Nick's daily log where he documents what he eats and drinks every day, live blood analysis, weight graphs, pH graphs and more.
One of the reasons Nick named his web site "Stop Doing Cancer" is because Nick believes that people diagnosed with cancer are responsible for developing the disease. "I believe that cancer is not something that strikes us. It is something we do to ourselves because of the way we eat, move, think, feel, and so on," says Nick Kay. "I believe I will reverse my cancer by making better lifestyle choices and allowing my body to heal itself."
After reading many books and articles on cancer, Nick based his natural treatment program on "The pH Miracle" by Dr. Robert Young. "Essentially, Dr. Young states that all disease stems from an over-acidification of our tissues and fluids and that we can prevent and reverse most disease by living alkalizing lifestyles," says Nick. "I have definitely seen improvements since I started this program. For one, I look better than I have in a long, long time. People comment all the time on that. I also feel like I did in my 20's - strong and vibrant. I have boundless energy. I have hardly had any symptoms since I started the program, especially the last month, or so. "
StopDoingCancer.com also serves as a community for cancer patients and survivors, where people can post comments, ask questions and share their experiences and success stories. The response to StopDoingCancer.com has been very positive.
"Just think by transforming your health, there may be countless others that will be watching you and think if he can do it, why can't I? You will be in effect saving many other lives by saving your own!" - writes Kim from Boston, MA, USA in her posting on www.StopDoingCancer.com. And Lisa Woodard from Cary, NC writes: "I am totally blown away by the comprehensiveness and professionalism of your website!"
"My hope is that my website will inspire you and that you will learn from my actions and from everyone that shares their knowledge and stories on this website," says Nick Kay. For more information, please visit http://www.stopdoingcancer.com/.
Gather Little by Little
Look what I discovered on the "information super highway." I found it very interesting; I hope you enjoy it too.
Gather Little by Little is a personal finance blog with a Christian perspective. It’s about growing wealth in accordance with Proverbs 13:11 - Dishonest money dwindles away, but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow. Most people believe that becoming wealthy happens overnight. These same people believe that if you can’t gain wealth quickly, they’ll never be rich. The Bible tells us that this is far from the truth. Here we’ll focus on topics related to growing wealth using common sense biblical practices and by gathering money, little by little.
What You will find here:
* Useful articles focused on managing your finances and growing wealth
* New content that is added regularly along with how-to articles teaching you options on how to get control of your finances.
* Content that sometimes strays a bit, but will always be useful and applicable to personal and financial growth (which in my opinion are very tightly coupled)
What you won’t find here:
* Bad language or offensive material
* Offensive or non-related advertising.
* Postings just to make money. While my articles may contain affiliate links, I only work with affiliates that have products I use or believe in.
* Get Rich quick schemes, pyramid marketing schemes, or any other money scams
There's a lot more information at the web site!! Go to Gather Little by Little.
Three Month Anniversary
If you have been following my blog, you know that I am recovering from acute ozone poisoning. I'm delighted to report that I am healthy again. I lack strength and energy but that might be attributed to "old age"?! Both should return when we eventually get beyond our unseasonably wet Spring. I look forward to long walks!! With 20/20 hindsight, I recognize that I could have used the treadmill at the Senior Center. However, during recovery I haven't wanted to be in a social setting.
I have no breathing problems. As far as I can determine, I have no allergies. I don't suffer when the gardener mows the three-plus acres of lawn at this apartment complex. No sneezing, no itchy eyes....
Not surprising, perhaps, the stress of the severe illness recently triggered Shingles!! All-in-all, I've suffered a miserable eight months!!
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the first-born among many brethren. What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?" Romans 8:28-29, 31 KJV
Life Is a Gift
Received as an e-mail, from a friend in Utah.
=========================
There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind. She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always there for her. She told her boyfriend, 'If I could only see the world, I would marry you.'
One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. When the bandages came off, she was able to see everything, including her boyfriend.
He asked her, 'Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?' The girl looked at her boyfriend and saw that he was blind. The sight of his closed eyelids shocked her. She hadn't expected that. The thought of looking at them the rest of her life led her to refuse to marry him.
Her boyfriend left in tears and days later wrote a note to her saying: 'Take good care of your eyes, my dear, for before they were yours, they were mine.'
This is how the human brain often works when our status changes. Only a very few remember what life was like before, and who was always by their side in the most painful situations.
Life Is a Gift
Today before you say an unkind word - Think of someone who can't speak.
Before you complain about the taste of your food - Think of someone who has nothing to eat.
Before you complain about your husband or wife - Think of someone who's crying out to GOD for a companion.
Today before you complain about life - Think of someone who went too early to heaven.
Before whining about the distance you drive - Think of someone who walks the same distance with their feet.
And when you are tired and complain about your job - Think of the unemployed, the disabled, and those who wish they had your job.
And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down - Put a smile on your face and think: you're alive and still around.
I PRAY
THIS MOVES AROUND
THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE...
Global Domains International: Scam or Really That Good?
by John Scevola
In order to classify something as illegitimate or a scam, we first must understand their business and what they are trying to do. The domain registry industry is a fast paced and competitive market where a large number of domain registration companies are trying to get their domains sold through a small army of domain resellers. That is how Internet domains have been sold for years, and that is how Internet domains will be sold for the foreseeable future.
In the Internet industry is it always difficult to identify pioneers and the forward thinking people that can take the simplest of Internet ideas and turn them into a huge opportunity. One of the areas that have seen some very creative people find a lot of success the past few years is the domain registration business, but Global Domains International could be identified as a pioneering company when it comes to offering domain registration services that could make you a steady income for a long time to come.
It is easy to dismiss a company that comes on to the Internet scene with a new idea as a fly by night organization, but Global Domains International is a forward thinking company that is digging in and preparing to write a long and successful history. At a time when the dot com domains are filling up and people are looking for an alternative way to get their businesses noticed on the Internet, Global Domains International has provided that alternative and then they also created a way to allow you to make money from their great idea.
Global Domains International has secured the entire .WS market, and they want you to help them create an Internet revolution that could make you a full time income. Right now there are between 20 and 30 million dot com websites registered in the world, and it has become increasingly difficult to make your business stand out in the dot com world. With a .WS address your company can stand out above the rest, and gain an entirely new level of Internet presence not possible with an obscure dot com address. It is a pioneering idea that could change the way business is done on the Internet, and it is the brainchild of Global Domains International.
Global Domains International knows that they cannot bring this pioneering idea to the entire Internet by themselves, so they want to pay you to help them do it. If you get involved in their .WS reseller program, then you will have the opportunity to get paid for getting other people interested in this groundbreaking idea and profit from your hard work and their hard work as well. The Global Domains International multi-tiered approach to marketing their product allows you to make money from the people that you bring in, as well as making money from the people that they get involved in the program as well. Your income grows as your business grows, and that is the result of the marketing experts at Global Domain International.
You can search the Internet all day for business opportunities and you will uncover a few legitimate programs, and you will also be exposed to a lot of people that offer you the moon and fall way short on delivering. You need a solid program, backed by a solid business idea, and executed by a solid company. With the Global Domains International .WS reseller program you get all of that, and you get so much more. You can also benefit from their world class Internet hosting service, and all of the benefits that come from having a website registered and hosted by Global Domains International. You get all of this while building a business that could make you a large part-time income, or could turn into your full time successful business.
All of this is made possible by Global Domains International, and it is because they are just that good.
