Thousands crowded the area outside the Today Show studio, packed Rockafeller Center, and many blocks beyond. Countless millions watched on TV. What was the attraction? Miley Cyrus!! ~~ Personally, I left the apartment before the concert; I went shopping for a few necessities--including organic fruit and veggies. During the 30 mile drive to Gastonia, I listened to Christian music and an inspirational message (on the radio). 'Nuf said?!
No exaggeration: I spent about two hours in Lowe's searching for "just the right" items for a repair on the Little Guy Teardrop trailer. More about the physical repair in a later message. Meanwhile, a caveat: Don't neglect weather stripping and allow water damage!! ~~ I now own a large heavy-duty tarp that I will use to cover Little Guy for the winter. But that doesn't address the problem of our frequent heavy rains--during the summer--when I am "between trips."
Yes, I do "home repairs"--and trailer repairs. However, this project calls for someone with tools and "know how" that I don't have. Two weeks ago a self-proclaimed expert on Teardrops looked at the project and said he would be back the next day. Eight days went by and I didn't hear from him. I called... and he said he'd been sick. He'd be here the next day with everything needed. That was four days ago!! ~~ Several days ago I searched the local phone book, and newspaper ads, for a "handyman." I called three... but only one returned my call.
What happened to honesty and integrity over the last few decades?? Why is a "senior" lady ignored?? I've always given more than was required. I've marched to a different drummer.

The Anti-Cancer Diet
By Peter Jaret, Natural Solutions
It wasn’t until my annual physical examination, and a simple question from the doctor about my family health history, that I found myself thinking, Uh-oh.
Fourteen years ago my mother died of lung cancer. Ten years later my aunt died of the same disease. Not long ago my brother was diagnosed with lymphoma. Of course I’d known all that. But somehow I hadn’t consciously admitted to myself how often cancer had struck. Brain tumors, skin cancer, prostate cancer–they all showed up somewhere in the family tree. Were we especially susceptible to this terrible disease? And was there anything to do to lower the risk?
Risk for some cancers, in fact, does run in families. Some inherited genes seem to make it easier for healthy cells to mutate into malignancy; others can impair the body’s built-in ability to disable cancer-causing substances before they cause trouble. Inherited risk helps explain why some smokers live until they’re 95 and others, like my mother and her sister, die of lung cancer in their sixties. Someday, genetic tests may be used routinely to assess a person’s risk of specific cancers. But I don’t want to wait for that. I want to do whatever I can to lower my risk. Now.
So I called Melanie Polk, a dietitian and director of nutrition education at the American Institute for Cancer Research, and she told me the same thing I would hear from almost every expert, alternative or mainstream, including the National Cancer Institute and the American Cancer Society. “Eat more fruits and vegetables. That’s the single most important step most people can take to lower their cancer risk.”

A Grocery Star is Born
Copied from e-mail, from Ideal Bite Are your fruits and veggies blessed with good genes? Peel your eyes off the silver screen and check the number on the little label on your apple or squash. It'll help you make sure what you're buying is organic and nongenetically modified. Kind of a big deal.
World-famous health benefits. Genetically modified (GM) foods have been in stores only since the 1990s, so we don't know the long-term health risks, and in a recent study by the Austrian government, GM corn was found to affect fertility in mice.
Mainstream scientists are concerned that GM organisms will reduce biodiversity.
No prominent pesticides. Although farmers can use some naturally occurring pesticides on organic foods, they're way less harmful than the synthetic kind.
A-List tastes. Foodies everywhere agree that the range of possible flavors is greater when we just let Mother Nature do her thing.
Once we heard about this trick, it made those little stickers a little less annoying to peel off.
GM-free and organic produce isn't available everywhere, but this trick helps you know what's what when navigating the fruit and veggie aisles.
Look for the PLU codes on the labels stuck on your fruits and veggies.
A four-digit number means it's conventionally grown.
A five-digit number beginning with 9 means it's organic.
A five-digit number beginning with 8 means it's genetically modified.

Little Guy Teardrop Trailer Travels # 11--Counting the Cost
When I drove North on July 8th, I encountered two detours on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Blowing Rock, and Boone. In my humble opinion, 5:30 PM was too early to stop and camp at Doughton Park (milepost 239), and if I continued to Julian Price Memorial Park (milepost 297) or Linville Falls (milepost 316.3) for camping I'd have to travel through the detours again. At a moment's notice, I decided to leave the Parkway at State Route 18 (milepost 217). That was a friendly reminder of "home" because it goes within a quarter mile of my apartment!!
I pulled into my driveway at 8:14 PM. I had traveled 304 miles since 9 AM. Over 180 miles were at 25 and 30 miles per hour!! Judging from the number of miles, and the number of pictures, you can see that I was feeling much better (Praise the Lord!!). I had traveled a total of 1193 miles in nine days.
The major expense for this trip was (understandably) gasoline at $135.70 (and I still have half a tank). If I'm figuring this correctly, that's less than twelve cents a mile!! Next was the luxury of three nights camping at Shenandoah Valley Campground--for the Teardrop trailer owners rally--totalling $99.23. Traditionally, I stay in Walmart parking lots so the RV Park was a BIG expense. On this trip, two nights (free) at Walmart and two nights in National Park campgrounds at $8.00 each (because I have a Golden Age Pass). One night, free camping, in a campground in Buena Vista, Virginia. Dividing the $115. by 8 equals approximately $14.40 per night. (I'm quick to tell people that traveling with the Teardrop trailer sure saves on hotel/motel expense!!) I left home with fruit and veggies; purchased more at a Farmer's Market in Staunton, Virginia, and (later) from a Food Lion. Add in three restaurant meals, some postcards, and a DVD of the Skyline Drive, Blue Ridge Parkway, and Great Smoky Mountains and incidental expenses totaled $135. A grand total of $385.14 for eight days!!
A very reasonably-priced vacation--and it lifted my spirits from depression to abundant joy!! On a little-traveled highway, I was admiring God's beautiful handiwork; I was listening to traditional old hymns of faith (on CD)!! Truly a "mountaintop experience"!! The weather was lovely; the food was good!!
Speaking of "little-traveled": Frequently I drove for twenty miles without seeing another vehicle. This is my private, non-scientific, survey but I believe I saw ten motorcycles to one car, and five or six bicycles to one car. People aren't traveling!! There were three recreation vehicles in Otter Creek Campground. The Host said "Isn't this terrible?" and gestured to the acres of empty campsites. I was told that they were not full for the 4th of July weekend.
~~~~~~~~~~
A hymn I listened to, and sang frequently on this trip:
Lord, lift me up and let me stand,
By faith on Heaven's tableland.
A higher plain than I have found,
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.
Vegetarian Grace "We thank God for all the food placed before us for which no living creature has been sacrificed, and may there be peace on earth. Amen."
Greetings in Jesus Precious Name!! I am back in camp (Shenandoah Valley Campground) after a trip to Staunton, Virginia, to the Farmer's Market. I bought a few organic items, took some pictures, and visited with some really nice people. HI DAN !!!
Judging by the number of recreation vehicles in this Park, it doesn't look like people are experiencing a "recession." I haven't seen an empty space anywhere--although when I arrived (Friday) it was almost deserted!! For the weekend, there are million dollar Class A motorhomes, large travel trailers, and a large number of tent campers. Children everywhere, on bicycles or walking back from the pool!! I'm enjoying a blessed weekend!! Great fellowship, delicious food!!
Fast Food = Healthy?
Dear readers, (from Mike Adams, NaturalNews Editor)Fast Food = Healthy? "Raw in 10 Minutes" by Bryan Au Reveals Fast, Healthy Raw Foods Recipes
At a fun-filled social gathering, I nearly flipped out when a raw foods friend of mine served up a plate of Super Nachos on an oversized platter. It wasn't made of fried corn chips and cheese, however: It was made from 100% raw foods and superfoods loaded with healing phytonutrients.
But that hardly mattered in the moment: The taste was so good, we dug in and devoured the whole platter in about two minutes, then begged for more. "No problem," my friend said. "I can make another batch in less than five minutes."
Five minutes? How was he creating this superfood cuisine in mere minutes? And when I asked, he tossed me a copy of an astonishing recipe book I want to tell you about. It's called Raw In 10 Minutes by Bryan Au, and it's the world's greatest recipe book on creating what I call "raw fast food" in under 10 minutes.
Guilt-free fast food that actually protects your health...
Craving a burrito or lasagna? How about pizza boats, cookies, grilled cheese sandwiches, pancakes or triple-layer chocolate cake? How would you like to eat all this food completely free of guilt, knowing that you're supporting your own health with the best healing foods on the planet? And get this -- you can prepare these recipes in under ten minutes flat!
Everybody knows about the healing power of raw foods, but some people have felt intimidated by the long preparation time typically involved. Bryan Au has solved that problem with this amazing "raw fast food" recipe book called Raw In 10 Minutes.
The most incredible "raw fast food" recipe book I've ever discovered...
Packing in 79 mouth-watering raw foods recipes -- all clocking in under 10 minutes! -- this book became an instant favorite in my own kitchen, and it's been getting rave reviews across the raw foods community.
You've got to see this to believe it... eat raw Macaroni & Cheese, Triple-Layer Chocolate Cake, Pancakes, Super Nachos, Burritos, Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, Lasagna and more -- all 100% raw, healthy and completely, utterly guilt-free!
Each meal takes no more than ten minutes to prep from start to finish, and it's all spelled out for you in clear, concise step-by-step instructions in Raw In 10 Minutes.
Order it right now from Truth Publishing or read [at that site] details about the amazing recipes the book contains.
Hearty homemade vegetable soup
The weatherman predicted cooler weather for next week--so I decided to make some soup. Over night, I thawed several containers of leftover homemade soups (from recent months). I blended the contents in the VitaMix so I have a very rich broth of cabbage, carrots, celery, garlic, onions, and canned tomatoes. To that yummy broth I am adding baby carrots, onions, turnips, and small red potatoes. ~~ My diet is primarily raw fruits and vegetables. However, sometimes I crave a hearty vegetable soup. As silly as it may sound, I think our body talks to us and tells us (by our craving) what we need. I won't eat it all (it's a big kettle full) so some will go back into the freezer with a May date on the label.
Genetically Modified Organisms
(NaturalNews) Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are created through an inexact science of shooting genes spliced from bacteria, viruses, insects, animals or humans with a .22 caliber pistol into the DNA of plants or animals laced with a metal such as tungsten. This unsafe science ostensibly supplants millions of years of evolution with little or no scientific justification. In fact, recent research on GMO crops have reported yields to be between 4 to 20 percent less than conventional crops.
In the 1970's when genetic engineered was pioneered, scientists believed the genome was static and genes could be altered in a uniform manner with the organism only expressing the one intended modification. As research progressed in the 1980's, scientists scrapped the idea of the static genome and moved towards a dynamic genomic belief model. This came about from the realization that by inserting a new gene into a plant, a cascade of unintended consequences arose. Scientists found that there was no possible way to introduce a new gene into an organism and only get one intended result. The genes quickly changed based on a myriad of unknown circumstances that sometimes could not be repeated in the lab even though the exact same procedures were used. The levels of instability from these newly created organisms were overwhelming, but many scientists were silenced.
Safety has always been the number one priority of consumers when it comes to GMOs; antithetically, the seed companies' only priority has been to increase profits at any expense. Therefore, it is no surprise that objective and unbiased researchers have recently added to the growing knowledge of the realities of the increased instability and unintended consequences regarding the long-term safety of GMOs. These researchers recently found clear links among the consumption of GM-corn and decreased fertility, immunological alterations in the gut and the exacerbation and creation of allergies.
Lorraine here: Read about the author of the above--and following--articles, Dr. Gregory Damato, at the end of this "blog." The previous article was quite long and contained very scientific jargon. You can find the entire article at http://www.NaturalNews.com/025001.html . You can read Dr. Damato's numerous articles at http://www.NaturalNews.com/Author494.html . Personally, I, Lorraine Edwards, do not want to eat genetically modified organisms. Notice in the first paragraph (below) that "...corporations...have gone through extensive measures to ensure the citizens of most nations have no possible way of knowing whether the food they...are eating contain contaminants of GMOs."
(NaturalNews) Recent polls across the world have consistently shown that, if they had a choice, 90% of people would actively seek to avoid GMOs (genetically modified organisms) in their food. The large multinational corporations of the world have gone through extensive measures to ensure the citizens of most nations have no possible way of knowing whether the food they and their children are eating contain contaminants of GMOs. The labelling of GMOs on the packaging of any foods in the US for example, is illegal. For example, if a company like Kellogg decided to include a full disclosure label on their cereal box that stated, "contains genetically modified corn" they could be sued by the manufacturer and then face possible prison time.
This is a very important issue because the democratic process of many nations has been surreptitiously supplanted by the corporatocracy of the seed company juggernauts. America has one of the highest levels of GMOs in their food chain in the western world with up to 85% of its prepackaged and processed foods coming from genetic engineering. The people have never asked for GMOs- but got them anyway. The people then asked that they be properly labeled so they could avoid them- they were ignored. Therefore, seeing how our health freedom and well-being is consistently under attack from large multi-national corporations only seeking to increase profits at the expense of our health, what are we to do?
What we can do is simply try to avoid the GMO contaminants altogether and be extremely vigilant of how we spend our money and which companies we are choosing to support. Here are five simple and effective ways to decrease your contact with untested, toxic and dangerous GMOs.
1.) Buy Locally Produced Food
For now, GMOs are only used by large multinational corporations who buy direct from large farms. Produce from local mom and pop farmers have yet to become genetically modified. Purchasing locally grown food supports your local farmers and your health. Not to worry about GMO tomatoes and potatoes as they have all been pulled from the market.
2.) Buy Organically Grown Food
For now, the organic certification process is a relatively safe bet to ensure your food is free of GMOs, although this may not be the case in the future. Help support global sustainability by purchasing certified organically grown food.
3.) Avoid the Top Four GMO Crops of Soy, Corn, Canola and Cottonseed
This is a bit tricky as most blended oils in North America contain canola and cottonseed. Whenever you go out to dinner and receive anything fried, you are most likely consuming GMOs from the oil, not to mention transfat. A way around this would be to purchase 100% extra virgin olive oil, but be sure to avoid the term olive oil as most of it is blended with some GMO cottonseed or canola. Unless it specifically states "Non-GMO" or some derivation on the label, it most likely contains GMOs.
Likewise, any time you consume corn chips, tacos or soy milk, you are eating GMOs, again unless it specifically states Non-GMO or is organic.
4.) Avoid Artificial Additives and Sweeteners
Most of us are aware of the dangers behind the artificial sweetener and excitotoxin, aspartame (known as preservative E951), but may not be aware that it is created using genetic modification. Even the majority of vitamin C (ascorbic Acid) and many B vitamins have been created via genetic modification. A Japanese company was forced to pull GMO L-Tryptophan off the market in 1989 after thousands of people became severely ill with many developing an extremely rare blood disorder called, Esinophilia-Myalgia Syndrome (EMS), although the FDA never publicly mentioned that GMO contamination was the true cause of the recall.
5.) Look For the Non-GMO Label
This includes all animals used for food because most are typically fed GMO feed. If it does not state Non-GMO on the label, then email the manufacturer and ask if they use GMO feed. It is best to attempt to contact all of the manufacturers of the foods you generally eat on a daily or even weekly basis and determine whether GMOs ingredients are utilized in the food. You have a fundamental right to know whether the foods you are consuming have been contaminated with GMOs. When in doubt always look for the Non-GMO label, and unfortunately assume that it has been genetically modified unless the opposite have been explicitly stated.
About the author: Dr. Gregory Damato enjoys a vegan lifestyle and runs a Quantum Biofeedback clinic treating various clients ranging from autism to cancer. He is currently authoring a book for parents educating on the many hidden dangers of vaccines, chemical toxicity in toys, GM foods, the effects of EMFs and EMRs and ways to combat rising childhood illness and neurological disease by naturally building immunity, detoxification and nutrition. His goal is to increase global awareness of the myriad of health issue facing us today and the fact that 100% of them are preventable and completely reversible.
